The Opportunity
Structured courses lose learners long before the difficult material arrives. Reading pages of theory gives no sense of progress, and complex subjects feel abstract until a learner can act on them. The opportunity is to reframe a curriculum as a journey with visible milestones.
The Product Concept
CandleQuest presents a curriculum as a map of quests. Each quest introduces one concept, sets a guided challenge, and unlocks the next step only once the learner has demonstrated understanding, so difficulty and confidence grow together.
My Role
Product vision, learning-experience design, gamification strategy, UX/UI design and ecosystem integration. I define the learning model, design the quest and progression systems and shape how the product connects to the wider SG Academy family.

Key Features
Quest-based learning
Each lesson is a self-contained quest with a clear objective, a guided challenge and an outcome the learner can see.
User progression
A visible path shows what has been completed, what is unlocked next and how far the learner is from the next milestone.
Gamification system
Levels, streaks, achievements and mastery indicators reward consistency rather than speed.
Interactive storytelling
Narrative framing carries the learner through abstract material without diluting the underlying content.
Challenges and Decisions
Game mechanics that serve learning
Rewards are tied to demonstrated understanding rather than time spent, so the mechanics reinforce the curriculum instead of replacing it.
Keeping depth without intimidation
Advanced material stays available but is revealed progressively, so a beginner is never shown the full complexity at once.
What I Learned
- · Visible progression matters more to completion rates than richer content.
- · Game mechanics only work when they reward the behaviour the curriculum actually needs.
Current Status and Next Steps
SG CandleQuest Academy is an independently developed educational product concept currently in active development. The displayed interface represents its product direction and learning-experience design. It sits alongside SG Neural Network Academy within the SG Academy family of the ShapGenius Ecosystem, sharing its design language and multilingual content structure. Next development priorities are completing the quest and progression model, building the first full learning track, implementing achievement logic and extending translation coverage across English, Swedish and Thai.
